Xuhui Launches the Third Parent-Child Mini Marathon

(08-06-2018)

On the morning of May 27, the “CPIC” Cup 16th Shanghai Xuhui Youth Community Sports Games and the 3rd fun Parent-Child Mini Marathon was held in Xuhui Riverside.

The event was jointly organized by Xuhui Sports Bureau, the United Front Work Department of Xuhui Committee Xuhui CPC Committee, Xuhui Health and Family Planning Commission, Xuhui Education Bureau, Xuhui Women's Federation, Xietu Sub-district, and Longhua Sub-district, and was sponsored by adidas (China) Co., Ltd. The activity was implemented in a joint effort by Shanghai Insport & Entertainment, Zhu Yunying Youth Sports Club, Macco Center, and Shanghai Haogang Sports Development. Yan Bo, Deputy Mayor of Xuhui, attended the opening ceremony and launched the marathon.

With the firing of the starting gun, participating parents and children set out from the adidas Runbase and headed east along Xuhui Riverside, running past a series of attractions including the Long Museum and Xuhui Riverside Planning Exhibition Center, and returned after reaching Rihuigang Bridge. The children, accompanied by their parents, ran happily enjoying the beautiful views and the fun of sports; laughter was heard all along the way.

Upon the finish line, the children received their medals; smiles with sweat on their faces fully demonstrated the happiness of sports. The organizers also set up carnival activities in the finish area, such as marching, riding along the Riverside, rugby experience, happy volleyball, baseball, and roller skating, adding more fun to the event.

In recent years, the marathon has become one of the most popular events. The parent-child mini marathon, the third in a series, enjoyed a popularity no less than that of Shanghai International Marathon. After the registration information was released on the “Huitiyu” APP and adidas’ special webpage platform, it was warmly received by parents: the 300 places soon ran out in only 2 days, leaving more with empty hands because they were outrun. Parents participating in the competition said that such carnival activities, parent-child-oriented and fun, were just amazing as children could truly feel the joy of sports and family-child interaction could also be promoted.
