  • Hongmei South Road Overpass Starts Operation on Sep. 29

The road construction from Hongmei South Road to Jinhai Road Tunnel will be completed soon after the work on the surface. The overpass has been done by Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co., Ltd and the asphalt concrete road on the ground is 95% done. The overpass and the ground-level highway on Hongmei South Road will be put into use on September 29. Overpass and Ground-level Highway Double RoutesThe Hongmei South Road Overpass spans Xuhui and Minhang districts from central ring Shangzhong Road in the north to Yongde Road in the south, connecting with the river-crossing tunnel on Hongmei South Road. The 10.89-kilometer overpass section has almost finished except for the deformation joint, signs and lamps. The construction team is also working on the ground-level highway at night when there is less traffic. Our reporter drove with staff from Shanghai Tunnel Engineering on the overpass from the river-crossing tunnel from River-crossing tunnel exit on Hongmei South Road to central ring overpass. It only took 12 minutes at the speed of 60 kilometer/hour. Hongmei South Road will become a double route with overpass and ground-level highway. The overpass meets the standard of urban freeway with four lanes in both directions. The sub-section from Yindu Road to S20 is four main lanes and two turnout lanes with six pair of interchange. The ground-level highway includes the six lanes in both direction in the north of Shuangbai Road and four lanes in both direction in the south of the same road. This new facility will ease the traffic burden of Minhang district as another powerful route to Shanghai in the southwest along with the Xinzhuang and Humin Overpasses. All Paved with Asphalt No-SprayThe entire overpass is paved with Asphalt No-Spray OGFC-13. This is different from other overpasses in the city paved with traditional asphalt that performs badly under heavy rains. The fog from the rain and the unclear road signs cause great safety risks in rainy days. “Asphalt No-spray is by its definition good at draining rain water quickly and leaves no water layer on the road. It can also reduce the traffic noise because of its larger structural gap,” the project manager of the Shanghai Tunnel Engineering told us, “In this way, it reduces the fog in rainy days and increases vision and safety. Also, the Asphalt No-spray is more anti-slippery and easier to stop when the drivers brake, thus reducing the chances of car accident.”(Source: Labor Daily)

The 2017 Shanghai Tourism Festival (STF) “SH Citywalks” event was launched recently in Hongkou, Pudong, Huangpu, Jiangan, Xuhui and Changning districts simultaneously. On September 17, the “2017 SH Citywalks – exploring the Shanghai West Bund,” one of the series of the STF Citywalks events guided by Shanghai Municipal Tourism Administration (SMTA) and Xuhui District Tourism Bureau, sponsored by the Travel Times, held by XuHui District Tourism Service Center, and supported by Xuhui Post Bureau, was held on the square of Xuhui Binjiang Planning and Exhibition Center. Beginning from 2014, the “SH Citywalks” is an innovative brand created by SMTA aiming to lead tourists on a sensual journey by feeling the pleasure and enjoyment of walking around the city. By the end of this year, the 45km-long Binjiang shoreline will be fully connected and open, and this new skyline will be a new card for Shanghai, displaying various kinds of urban looks along the bank. The West Bund stretches from Rihui Port in the north to Xupu Bridge in the south, including the 8.4 km shoreline of Huangpu River. It is where Shanghai’s modern industrial heritage exists, and the Chinese and Western cultures meet; it is also one of the biggest development projects in Asia that hosts cultural and artistic groups and cultural innovation industry. The Long Museum (West Bund gallery) is on the former location of the Beipiao Coal Wharf; the Yuz Museum was once an old Shanghai aircraft hangar; the valley of flowers and the tower crane and all other landmarks that has stood there in the last century are telling us the old and new stories of the West Bund. What makes the Shanghai West Bund unique is the integration of art and history. “Exploring the Shanghai West Bund” is meant to lead people on a journey of discovery. There were two routes on the day of “exploring the Shanghai West Bund.” The first one was about 3km, starting from Xuhui Binjiang Planning and Exhibition center, walking along Xuhui Binjiang, experiencing the newly opened public open space, walking by the Long Museum (West Bund Gallery), Longhua Bridge, Marine Lookout Tower, Yuz Museum, Shanghai Center of Photography, and all other iconic scenic spots, and ending at the West Bund Art Center. The second one was about 1.8km, starting from Xuhui Binjiang Planning and Exhibition center, walking straight to the north, passing by the Rihui Port Footbridge, into the Huangpu Binjiang area, and ending at the World Expo Museum where a free tour guide service was provided for the participants. Xuhui Post Bureau also participated in this event by placing pavilions and old-fashioned bicycles and satchels used by Shanghai postmen on the checkpoints along the routes, bringing participants back to the old days. They could also get a special postmark on their postcard at every checkpoint and send them out free, creating some special memories for themselves while strolling along the Bund and watching the beautiful views. According to the person-in-charge of Xuhui District Tourism Bureau, as the 45km-long public space project progresses, three land tour routes, short, medium, and long, will be introducing on the Xuhui part of Shanghai Huangpu River Cruise, inviting people to go out and see the beautiful views on the both banks of Huangpu River by walking.

  • A Florist Refreshes the Whole Building

Each apartment is part of a community. Now more and more residents have made efforts to decorate the corridors as part of their interior decoration. Without piled-up trash and personal belonging, the corridors are now filled with plants and flower, so that residents feel right at home as soon as they enter the gate of the building. Ms. Ma Hongran, who lives in Building 2, Fuhua Garden, Xietu Community of Xuhui, is also a planting enthusiast who cares for all. Stepping into No. 2 building, one finds it lively and refreshing because of the plants placed on both sides of the porch and stairs. "This beautiful corridor would have never come true without Ms. Ma!" In the eyes of the residents, building administrator Ma Hongran is not enthusiastic, but also skillful for plants and flowers. After the Jingtai Residents Committee proposed to build "green corridors", Ma Hongran, a gardening lover, responded actively by moving green plant in her home to the corridor, and regularly gave watering and pruning. After careful efforts, the corridor has become a vibrant green corridor. Following her lead, other residents of the building have gradually developed a habit of decorating the corridor and joined the "green corridor"campaign. Ma Hongran’s hometown is in Tianjin, and she moved to Shanghai at an early age. Although the living habits have been fully adjusted to this southern city, but she never loses a big heart and the capability of speaking right out of her mind. In the interview, what she said most was: "Neighbors should always help each other." Residents have also given particular trust for this enthusiastic and attentive building administrator. When a neighbor leaves for travel, she/he will trust Ma Hongran to take care of the house; when the corridor is dirty because of the construction waste, Ma Hongran always cleans it immediately. When she saw some residents would drop their garbage beside the parterre, she immediately posted a notice to severely condemn behavior. Although she has done a great deal for the community, Ma still keeps a low-key. During the interview, she kept making arrangements with potted plants, and refused to show his face in front of the camera: "What I’m doing is help the neighborhood bond; as long as everyone’s happy, I’m fulfilled.
