  • Changqiao Opens All Senior Citizen Entertainment Centers in Summer

    Xuhui District’s Changqiao Sub-district opened all senior citizen entertainment centers, totaling 34, under its neighborhood communities so that the elderly could spend the summer there. In those air-conditioned entertainment centers, senior citizens could read newspapers, play chess, sing and enjoy themselves.   • Music Day 2017 Launched in West Bund, Highlighting Summer with Free Concerts

    From June 23 to 25, as part of the Croisements Festival, the Music Day 2017 (Fete de la Musique 2017) held a series of open free concerts in Shanghai. The event was co-organized by the French Embassy in China and the French Consulate General in Shanghai, featuring the opening concert at the West Bund Art Center in Xuhui Riverside region, which highlighted this hot summer with beautiful music (as shown in the picture). The Music Day is a is a large, free and popular festival dedicated to all types of music – from jazz to pop and rock, classical music and world music, which was created in 1982 by Jack Lang, the then French Minister of Culture. It has been a great success since its inception. Now extended to the whole world, the festival is celebrated in more than 450 cities in 100 countries from the five continents. In the recent 11 years, a number of Chinese cities have also been involved. In 2016, the Music Day in China attracted nearly 3.8 million music lovers (onsite, on TV and PPTV), which was among the most popular cultural exchange projects by the French Embassy in China. This year, it renewed its partnership with PPTV for livestreaming. On 6pm on June 23th at Venue B of West Bund Art Center, the evening was lit up by King Krab, Taiwan MC and French 79, together with Chinese groups of Da Fresh, Duck Fight Goose and Chacha& DJ Aivilox. Psychedelic pop, funk, electro, rock, and hip hop—different music styles met the demands of all trend setters. In the act of the event, many fans of the performing bands came with cards on which names of their idols were written, some came with friends, and residents from neighboring communities also came to enjoy the show. Some middle-aged photographers were shooting the feast, and all audience were sipping their lollipops and moved and relaxed their body to the beats of the music. After West Bund Group launched an open registration on its official WeChat account, a great many enthusiasts rushed to sign up. On the opening concert day, despite the rain, audience were still extremely excited. Considering that the opening concert was at lunch time, the organize prepared iced beverage and take-outs inside and outside the venue. West Bund is all for everyone to discover. As the last heavyweight event of ART WEST BUND in this spring and summer, West Bund Group held this music feast to help people relax and relieve. The Music Day will also give free performances at other places including Grand Gateway 66.

  • 3rd Training for Officials from Tibet’s Sagya Kicks off in CPC Xuhui District School

    The opening ceremony for the third round of training for officials from Tibet’s Sagya County was held in Chinese Communist Party (CPC) Xuhui District School on the morning of June 19, 2017. 30 officials from Tibet’s Sagya County government, committees, offices, bureaus, as well as town- and village-level governments attended the training. Mr. Li Zongjian, Associate Professor of CPC Xuhui District School, is one of the lecturers. He interprets President Xi Jinping’s new idea, concepts and strategies on state governance and administration in terms of historical background, logic system and Marxism’s values and methodologies involved, as well as major contribution of such new ideas and strategies.   • Role Model Teenagers

    The opening ceremony of “Learning from Role Model Teenagers of Xuhui District for 2017” was held at Guangqi Primary School on the morning of June 16. Ten role model teenagers, namely Ming Jiayun from Longhua Middle School affiliated to Shanghai Normal University, Yan Haoyang from Primary School affiliated to Jiaotong University, Cheng Yuwen from Shanghai Nanyang High School, Huang Tianling from Middle School affiliated to East China University of Science and Technology, Mao Haolin from Shanghai Primary School, Liu Yifan from Shanghai Information Management School, He Chenyu from Aiju PrimarySchool, Yu Yi from Huishi Primary School, Zhang Xingyuan from Middle School affiliated to Xuhui Training Institute for Teachers, and Lu Yichen from World Foreign Language Primary School, were awarded medals for their “righteousness & bravery”, “thrifty”, “self-respect”, and other virtues. The event prompted primary school and middle school students in the district to learn from those role models. The above event was an essential part of Xuhui district’s efforts in enhancing minors’ moral awareness and advocating the socialist core values. In 2017, based on implementation rules of “My Chinese Dream”, District Civilization Office, District Education Bureau, District Committee of Chinese Communist Youth League, and District Women's Federation jointly launched the campaign themed on “Venerating Virtues & Learning from Role Models” among 86 schools in the district. Each school selected candidates who are embodiments of core virtues such as independence, self-respect, integrity, righteousness & bravery, thrifty, respecting the old & caring for the young, respecting teachers & eagerness to learn, devotion and environmental protection. After level-to-level screening, of the 100 district “virtuous teenagers” selected from 640 candidates, 10 won the award of “role model teenager”. At the ceremony, officials from competent departments of municipality and district levels awarded certificates to those winners, while the student representative encouraged all to learn from such role models. In plain language yet touching account, Greet Deeds of Role Model Teenagers represented the virtues of such teens. “Ode to Virtuous Teens” (snapshoot by Gu Zhenhua), an original song using Peking Opera techniques, fueled all student participants’ determination to seek virtuousness. According to sources, Civilization Office of Xuhui District will issue the printed “Collected Stories of Role Model Teenagers in Xuhui District for 2017” in 2H17 and place publicity billboards for those teens in schools and communities. All schools will guide minors to learn from such role models, seek virtuousness and contribute to the development of campus via innovative approaches in publicity, teaching and practices.

  • 2nd Seminar for District Mayors: Urban Design

    Professor Zhang Yonghe, a famous architect, was invited to provide a presentation on urban design on the 2nd seminar for district mayors of the 16th administration of the district government on the morning of June 14. Professor Zhang covered urban planning issues facing the world, China, Shang and Xuhui district in urbanization and proposed related solutions. Moreover, he offered advices on the district’s urban planning. After the presentation, Fang Shizong, the Deputy Secretary for CPC’s District Committee and District Mayor, remarked that urban design is something between urban planning, landscape architecture, and architectural design. Paying more attention to the overall aesthetic value of the public space and urban image is an effective strategy for urban planning, architectural design and featured cityscape development, according to Fang. Mr. Fang also stressed priorities in urban design. Firstly, he underpinned the importance of unique district cityscape, drawing upon international experience, following the rule of urbanization, and protecting the city’s individuality. He required the district to ensure the sustainability and visibility of culture and showcase the district’s cultural identity while restoring the ecosystem and historical buildings in Hengshan-Fuxing Road Historic Reservation Area, Xujiahui District. Secondly, he highlighted humanity and in public space. Specifically, he required the district to value residents’ experience by careful design of traffic, infrastructure and street facilities to deliver more enjoyable, accessible and inclusive pubic space with aesthetic value so that residents have better experience. Thirdly, he stressed that the district should innovate policies to involve more parties. The district should coordinate the efforts of governments, the society, the public and experts, respect citizen’s right to know, participate in and oversee urban planning decision-making procedures, and encourage companies, citizens and the society to involve in the whole process of urban planning and development management to improve the modernization of urban governance, with the principle of “joint administration, management, development and benefit-sharing”.(Source: District Government Office)
