  • Amazing Bus Riverside No. 1 Now Connects Scenes Along Xuhui Riverside Area

At about 9 o'clock on the February 14th, Bus Riverside No. 1 on the Longteng Avenue Photograph by Gu Zhenhua With the opening of the 45-kilometer shoreline on both sides of the Huangpu River, the Riverside public space has become an ideal place for citizens and tourists to go sightseeing and take a walk. How to meet the transportation needs of citizens and tourists and solve the problem of the shortage of public transport support? According to Shanghai Ba-shi Public Transportation Group, the company is actively building the bus network on the west coast of Huangpu River. On February 8, the No. 4 Bus Company officially launched the new Riverside No.1 Bus that travels across the Xuhui Riverside Public Space. Bus Riverside No.1 is currently staffed by one-step, 10-meter and fast-charging pure electric buses. The new models are painted in bright and warm colors, and are equipped with large side windows, soft seats and optimized dashboard and driver area design. In addition, it adopts intelligent assisted driving, active safety and multimedia information screens to improve passenger experience. What’s more, the new models will also stress the application of the Internet of Vehicles technology to promote interconnectivity of systems and platforms and support intelligent dispatching and applications, which can automatically give early alerts on speeding, vehicle deviations and driving violations, so as to effectively improve driving safety. At the same time, it can share real-time data on the driving conditions of vehicles, battery status and road conditions. After the appearance is confirmed, it will be put into operation in the fourth quarter of this year after vehicle tests, announcements, development of abrasive tools and shape optimization. At present, there are 211 bus lines covering the entire area along the banks of the Riverside Area, of which 132 set their terminal station in this area and 69 move across the river. There are 52 bus hubs and terminal stations, 268 bus stops, covering 79% of areas every 500 meters. Although conventional bus routes can basically cover the areas along the Yangtze River, due to the restriction of road planning and construction and location, the density of bus lines and the coverage of stations are still lower than the average of that in Shanghai’s central urban areas. Public transport generally has a poor accessibility and is thus not popular in this area: within the Riverside area, public transport is not well connected with metro lines, ferries and vehicles, and transferring from one approach to another has not been facilitated; therefore, the Riverside transport system is yet to be completed. After the Riverside green space was opened, it has attracted a fair number of visitors for leisure tourism, who often come in small groups and have been guided and served via shuttle buses + slow traffic. Therefore, the Ba-shi Group has further optimized and adjusted the bus network around the Riverside area, planning to open up the tourist routes along the Puxi Riverside Area and connect the cross-river lines, to form a layout of "external radiation + internal connectivity." By 2020, the Ba-shi Group looks to use the Nanpu Bridge as a starting point to cover the Puxi Riverside shoreline, which features 2 special public transport lines that run through the Puxi Riverside. It will open up new cross-river lines to connect the public space along the eastern and western banks of the Riverside area. In addition, it will further optimize and adjust bus networks in Yangpu, Hongkou, Huangpu, and Xuhui Riverside.(Source: xuhuibao.com)

  • "Granny of Shanghai" is Carrying the Torch Forward

Ms. Shen Cuiying, or the beloved "Granny of Shanghai", gained this cute nickname in 2008 when the great "5. 12" Wenchuan Earthquake took place. She donated her three-bedroom apartment (floor area of 147 square meter) to a charity foundation, which was sold for 4.5 million yuan at an auction. In the past ten years, "Granny of Shanghai" has devoted herself to charity work. However, she clearly understood that money alone cannot solve the root of the problems. Therefore, this dedicated lady set up Shanghai Juai Co., Ltd. to promote kiwifruits produced in Dujiangyan. In early 2017, to help citizens get to know the Dujiangyan red kiwifruits and embrace nature, and help kiwifruit peasants in Dujiangyan develop tourism, she launched a kiwi fruit tree adoption campaign, which was warmly received by the public. Recently, "Granny of Shanghai" visited the Residents’ Committee of Dechang Sub-district to express her gratitude to Zhang Huaici, CPC Secretary of the sub-district committee, individuals and co-construction units for adopting kiwifruit trees, and said she would persist in charity. Zhang Huaici expressed his heartfelt admiration for the charity spirit of "Granny of Shanghai" and hoped that community residents would inherit and carry forward this spirit and make the community a more caring place.
